About Me
My name (if you haven't guessed already) is Alan. I live in Ramsgate, and I am a freelance web developer. I am in a LTR (Long Term Relationship) with the wonderful Jessica Avery, and have a small Online services business With Michael Ryder called RG Online. As well as the freelance I.T work i am also a Live Sound Engineer, and have worked with acts such as SOiL, Skindred, Panic Cell and the Cast Off Kinks.
I have been working in I.T for the last 8 years and moved from a predominately networking and hardware background to web programming because I can sit behind my own desk, instead of being anywhere where the Cat5e takes me.
I have worked with full active directory network environments, using. Windows Server 2000 - 2008r2, with Exchange 2003 - 2010 mail servers, and ISA / Forefront for security, as well as having worked with netgear and Cisco for network switching, routing and internet security.

From a web development perspective most of my work is done on Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (LAMP). However I also do maintenance work on Microsoft Server 2008 with Internet Information Services (IIS), Using either ASP.NET or PHP. I can configure both of these server enviromnts from scratch and always prefer to use a control panel for remote administration (cPanel, WHM, Enkompas or Website Panel), however I am not new to having to remote in and do the work via either Graphical User Interface (GUI) or Command Line (CL).
All of my code I work on is developed in Notepad++ with the Subversion addin, I have a private Subversion set-up which acts as a backup and is the versioning u require for all my work. Any graphics that I have to develop are done using Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) and when avaialble Adobe Photoshop. NVU, Bluefish and Adobe Dreamweaver come out of the box occasionally to provide me with a quick and easy way to mock up designs.
